Lissa L Graham-Schneider

My name is Lissa and I’m the Theatre Coordinator at Murray State University. I am a professor, director, writer, wife, and most importantly a mother.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My husband is Russell Schneider, and my daughter is Lydia Schneider. Russell works at Kenlake Foods, and Lydia is a junior at MHS where she is on the archery team..

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I’ve been teaching and directing for over 30 years. 25 here in Murray. I have been writing plays a lot recently and hope to continue.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I’m a big fan of Jasmines, but I’m always up for a salad at Dumplins! Their chicken salad is the best!

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I’m starting my 25th year this fall at MSU.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
That’s a tough one to narrow down. I’ve met a lot of amazing people in Murray. Probably the students at MSU. They have all been amazing, and each have great stories to share.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
China. I adopted my daughter there and we frequently search for her first parents. I’d love to show her China and continue our search.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
I’m a horror fan, through and through. I love zombies especially. So The Walking Dead, and Night of the Living Dead are faves.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Worry more about you and less about what others think of you. Someone’s opinion of you is inconsequential to your happiness.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Hold my grandchild.

Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?
Icehouse. They are my favorite group ever. Think of an Australian version of Roxy Music.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
I really miss The Campus Grill. Ed made the best burgers ever.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Neil Gaiman. (My favorite author.) Probably Future Grounds for coffee or tea.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love our students at MSU.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Close to retirement or retired and writing plays.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I want to raise bees.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Alaska in summer. The sun never sets and the wildflowers are amazing.

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
October. Halloween. October 31…it’s not only the best holiday, it’s my wedding anniversary.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
My husband. We’ve been married almost 24 years and I still think I’m the luckiest girl ever.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My daughter. I’m a better person already because of her, and I hope to continue being better for her.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
The ocean. I miss the beach. (I’m originally from Tidewater, VA.)

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Family, friends, pets.
